Rupert Grint: Costume designer Steffi Bruhn talks Into The White!

Rupert Grint: Costume designer Steffi Bruhn talks Into The White!February 26th, 2012, 9:37AM– Back in december ICM sat down with Steffi Bruhn, costume designer of Rupert Grint’s upcoming movie “Into The White“. We talked for almost two hours at a nice café in Berlin at the exact same table where she met Petter Næss for the first time and decided that she just “had to get” this job.

We got a great look behind the scenes and she gave us an idea about her work before and while shooting a movie. You will find out more about the “Teletubby style”, how she managed to give every character his personal feature while wearing the uniforms and that we almost got to see Rupert wearing a sailor suit. We also proudly present to you some exclusive pictures showing the original Horst Shopis and the development of the costumes.

Talking about Rupert, she only had the nicest things to say about our favourite guy and we got an idea about his fittings and his work on and off set. To give you a first glimpse:

Rupert is TERRIFIC! I’ve never met an actor like him before. Unbelievable! He is a professional man in the most positive way. He has discipline, such a natural discipline. He dressed up in his costume every morning and in the evening undressed exactly the same. Nevertheless if outside or inside, hot or cold, he paid perfectly attention to his precious original Costume-Details.

Curious to read more? You definitely should be. You’ll find the whole interview at our press page here.

Again a big thank you to Steffi for taking your time! It was a pleasure.
And a massive thank you to Melina for helping with the translation and editing the interview.

ICM Exclusive: Interview with Rupert Grint’s “Into The White” costar David Kross!

ICM Exclusive: Interview with Rupert Grint’s “Into The White” costar David Kross!February 19th, 2012, 12:44PM– A couple of days ago Rupert Grint’s costar in his upcoming movie “Into The White” the German actor David Kross took his time to do a little chat with us and we are happy to publish it today.

David Kross is best known for his performances in the Oscar-winning movie “The Reader” or in Steven Spielbergs current movie “War Horse
We spoke with David about his character Josef Schwarz, the benefits of working with an international cast and crew and how much he was looking forward to working with Petter Næss.

To give you a first glimpse, David speaking about Rupert’s acting-skills:

Rupert is a very professional and good actor. It was amazing to see, how he is just there the moment the camera switches on. He is in his role immediately, but also has a lot of fun between the scenes, laughs much. He doesn’t take things too serious, but in front of the camera, bang, he is there. That was impressive.

You’ll find the whole interview at our press page here. Thanks a lot David for taking your time.

And thanks to Melina for helping with the translation.

Rupert Grint: ICM Exclusive! Interviews with Petter Næss Part 2!

Rupert Grint: ICM Exclusive! Interviews with Petter Næss Part 2!December 27th, 2011, 10:10AM– As promised, the second and last part of our ICM Exclusive from Stockholm International Film Festival is now ready to be published 🙂 Hopefully, you all enjoyed your Christmas Holiday and consider this another special gift from us to you.

First, we sat down with the director of Into the White, Petter Næss, after the presentation at Bio Mauritz during the Stockholm International Film Festival. He was gracious enough to spend 15 minutes with us, which wasn’t planned ahead. We talked about the weather conditions, what Næss really thinks about this film, what he promised Rupert Grint when meeting him and the magical place of Grotli.

You can read the entire chat with Petter Næss here.

On the following day, we had arranged to meet up with Petter Næss at Berns Hotel where he was staying during the film festival. He was kind enough to spend an entire hour with us and answered all our questions. He also answered two chosen fan questions – so if you submitted one – check out if you’re the lucky one! 🙂 A sneak peak of what Petter Næss revealed to us during the interview on his view of the film:

I think it’s quite unexpected and very human actually. A chamber drama I think you call it… but it’s constantly affected by the surroundings, by the nature and the fact that they don’t know where they are. They don’t know if they’ll ever get out of there alive or who’ll get out of there and they’re in no-man’s land.

It’s a long interview, but it is definitely worth a read! A lot of interesting information about the film and of course Rupert Grint. You can read the interview by clicking… here.

You can see the pictures from both the chat and the interview in our gallery here.

If you haven’t read Part 1 of our report – make sure you do. You can find it here

UPDATE: ICM has just been given permission to show another news clip from the set of Into the White. This time, the clip is from the Norwegian channel, TV2. The entire news clip is in Norwegian, but the translation can be found underneath the video:

Stig Henrik Hoff: Nothing in the front, nothing in the back? No?
Voice over: The hair style is all set and the German crew is getting ready. Stig Henrik Hoff plays a German soldier in Petter Næss’ new film, Comrade.
Stig Henrik Hoff: Snow storm, snow storm [distorted voice]
Voice over: These days, they are recreating a 70 year old history on Grotli.
Petter Næss: Comrade is a film about a meeting between two enemies, a British plane and a German plane, three German pilots and two British who physically shoot each other down onto this mountain, here in Grotli, and they land and by chance seek shelter in the same cabin for hunters.
Voice over: With him on his crew, he has international stars such as Rupert Grint, known from Harry Potter, and Florian Lukas. But just as important is the effort from the local people. On record time, they’ve build and freighted scenery onto the mountain.
Man 1: There is such a ‘drive’ in the local community, that goes without saying when there’s a film being made here, then it’s a big thing for everyone who lives here and they think it’s exciting.
Man 2 [carpenter, talks about having made the plane and seeing it on set]
Voice over: Even though the story is from the Second World War, Næss didn’t want to make a typical war film with typical heroes. Comrade is a story about friendship that occurs in order for them to survive and go back to fighting.
Petter Næss: It really is a story about five men on a cabin vacation who tries to remain unfriendly, but gradually is unable to maintain the animosity.
Voice over: And Hoff has no problem setting into the role…
Stig Henrik Hoff: Once when I was driving a car, I met some idiot who drove into my car [he talks about him giving some attitude towards the other driver, and the driver doing the same thing towards him – not clear on the exact words] – and suddenly, when we leave the cars, we’re on the same level.
Voice over: The film will be released in cinemas in February next year.

Thanks to TV2 Norway for lending us the news clip!

Rupert Grint: ICM Exclusive! Into the White at Stockholm Film Festival Part 1!

Rupert Grint: ICM Exclusive! Into the White at Stockholm Film Festival Part 1!December 23rd, 2011, 5:15 AM– ICM is finally ready to share parts of the ICM Exclusive from Stockholm International Film Festival with you, and today we have a special treat for you all. As you all know, the new film with Rupert Grint, Into the White, was shown at the film festival as a part of their Work in Progress section – and ICM staffers Majbritt, Anna and Karo were present along with pseudo-staffer, Malene.

During the presentation the director Petter Næss and the producer/co-owner of Zentropa, Peter Aalbæk Jensen shared a lot of great insight on the production, the cast and the expectations for the film. Among other things, you can read a rather unexpected description of Into the White, given by Petter Næss:

That’s the kind of set up for the conflict and it’s actually a story where the antagonist is the growing friendship – it’s all about trying to maintain the enmity, trying not to become friends. So it’s actually like a love story, a romantic comedy.

You can read the full transcript of the presentation here – and get the full scoop on the blossoming bromance that took place between Rupert Grint and a fellow comrade!

Take a look at all our pictures taken at the presentation in our gallery by clicking here!

Part 2 of the Stockholm report will be here after Christmas – stay tuned for a lot more goodies from Mr. Næss! 🙂

In other Into the White-related news: Back in April, the Norwegian TV channel, NRK, visited the set of Into the White – and ICM has just been given permission to show the video to give fans a glimpse behind the scenes of Into the White. You can see the news clip here:

You can find a translation of the Norwegian parts on YouTube underneath the video in the description 🙂
