othermoviesThe Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman World Premiere: Interviews and Reviews!January 23st, 2013, 3:19PM —Rupert Grint‘s latest film The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman has just celebrated its World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival, with co-stars Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood and James Buckley being present on the red carpet!

In this interview, Shia mentions Rupert and the “best possible cast we could have, and the best picks”:

Several articles about the film have been published as well, giving more information about Rupert’s role.
USA Today has published this great article with the following quote from director Fredrik Bond:

“He’s so synonymous with the Harry Potter series, I think that’s why he was so keen to do this,” says Countryman director Fredrik Bond. “He’s dying to be doing different stuff outside of the series and be acknowledged for it. He’s an incredible actor. And it’s so different from what he’s done before. He had an amazing time.”

(Make sure to read page 2 as well…)

Oh, I don’t think critics should be taken as a word of god, just that their opinion can be used as a good guide if you can only afford to see one movie a month, and on that particular trip to the cinema you have no strong opinion about any film one way or the other.

In the end, it is opinion, and their opinion is worth as much as anyone else’s. And, like Maria said, there are good critics and bad critics. Unfortunately, assholes like Almond White and Rex Reed (the worst, most snobbish critics imaginable) have been seen collectively as representing “the critics”, when in fact they’re the minority. I mean, just read Empire, Total Film and Sight and Sound (who gave a very intelligent and unbiased review to Cherrybomb) and you’ll notice that the majority of critics are hard working, unbiased and generally fanatics of film.

Sorry to ramble, but the Rex Reeds and Almond Whites have become so loud and so prominent that some folks on the internet seem to consider critics like them to be representatives of “the critics”. I now know you weren’t doing that, but due to that being such a prominent opinion on the internet, I am ready to jump to the defense blindly.

@Calum Yes, every Movie gets bad and good Critic. Will happen to Emma, Dan, Johnny Depp and all Actors out there, because these Critics come from People like you and me, they are Opinions. Emma, Dan, Johnny, Keira and whoever will all get bad Critic as well, because not everyone can love your Work like not everyone can like you. It’s kind of normal.

That’s why I said don’t read Reviews and make a own Picture of Rupert and the Movie. Because at the End your Critic will have the same Worth as Totalfilm, Guardian and all these Websites. They just watched the Movie and said what they think, like we all do. . But I’m happy for Rupert when he get’s praised, of course. And he can be happy, since the Praise don’t just come from Critics, but also from the Cast. It’s just that I never read Reviews and let me get a Picture of a Movie from them

@Calum: I agree, there are some really horrible critics out there who seems to think that their word is law despite the fact that they obviously have no idea about any aspect of filmmaking and often bash the director or cast member. I have read Almond White’s reviews before and they are awful- that’s part of the reason why I don’t read reviews.

@Anon: Publicity is a difficult thing to balance, you don’t want to be overexposed to the point where everyone is sick and tired about here about you nor do you want to be totally forgotten. I think Rupert falls in the middle, we mainly hear about him when he is either filming or when a film of his is released. Like now, he is getting a lot of buzz about the role in NDCC and most are positive. There are alot of actors who are in the same boat, yet these actors are some of the more prolific ones around. Also, I don’t think that Rupert is very comfortable with publicity in general.

I really hope that Rupert does get a role similar to Sherlock sometime down the track that would really show off how good of an actor he is. I’m sure we will be hearing from Rupert this year, he has three movies coming out and is attached to a few others. Who knows maybe he will land a really big role this year. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Why people always talk about Dan and Emma when Rupert get bad reviews? Stop that. I love the trio and their are unique. Stop try bash Dan or Emma to make Rup looks better. Just stop. Just because Dan give really RAVE reviews about KYD and Emma was good in Perks looks like Rupert Army gets mad about that. I love Rupert and i don’t give a shi* for what critcs says because it’s a really small role in NDCC (cameo?) and you cant say it’s really act. He is an actor. And as an actor he can give the publi Good and Bad act. Not every on are good in all the movies. If he was bad in NDCC, no problem. Hes human! Sorry my bad english.

nobody’s bashing Emma or Dan! it’s quite the opposite actually… they’re doing well 🙂

@everyone above who said that Rupert gets bad reviews : no , he dosen’t , the film itself dose,Shea dose,Rupert’s hardly mentioned by the critics, and that’s even worse than getting bad reviews imo. good reviews or bad reviews, at least you are talked about , you are not forgotten. no offence to Rupert, we all know the way he always is ,but if he really want to keep being in this business, he’d better make some change , and soon.

I think this role is very small I’m not really expecting speaking about him all the time. It’s like Emma in My Week.

January 25th, 2013 at 7:07 PM

My goodness you guys! From what I have seen, Rupert is mentioned in a few reviews as being funny, and what a departure from Ron and Hogwarts this small role is. Only one review that I’ve seen says it isn’t much different than Ron…and really…can you rely on every review you read? Most have said the movie isn’t that good, but entertaining enough. Rupert’s career isn’t over, he has other projects he will work on, he isn’t in a competition with Dan or Emma, not all reviewers are evil, Dan and Emma are still very talented, and so is Rupert…etc… Now, can we talk about how hot it will be to see Rupert as a “wanna be” porn star? 😉

January 25th, 2013 at 7:11 PM

@Lia: I’m not sure what you are talking about. Nobody has even mentioned Dan or Emma, and no one is bashing them. Read the comments again before you make such claims. Also no one has said that Rupert gas gotten bad reviews either. Again read this chain of comments again.

@Anon: Rupert is not forgotten in this film, if you have google alert, there has been many articles about Rupert’s porn star wannabe role. When it’s such a small role yet he still gets mentioned means that it’s a memorable one. Plus how go we know what is happening behind the scenes? Perhaps there a few projects lined up.

Exactly Tania!! I don’t see what everyone is all in an “uproar” about! I can’t wait to see this film…no matter what the reviews are. That’s why I come to this page. I’m a Rupert fan and can’t wait to see what else the gorgeous guy has lined up!
