November 1, 2009, 10:43AM–According to The Sunday Mirror, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows star Rupert Grint has been rumored to portray British Olympic Ski-Jumper, Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards in an upcoming biopic. Edwards became famous during the 1988 Winter Olympic games in Calgary for coming in last in both the 70-meter and 90-meter ski jump competitions, which led to him becoming a beloved underdog around the world . He eventually won 9th place in a speed sking competition.

At this time, treat this report as a RUMOR until we can receive confirmation from Rupert’s representatives.
UPDATE: We’ve just heard from Rupert’s reps that he has received the script but is not currently attached to it. We do not know if Rupert will choose this project or not. We’ll let you know if anything comes of this!

Some idiot on SnitchSeeker said that he thought it would be better as a Ben Stiller comedy. First of all, we don’t even know if this is going to be a comedy – doesn’t really sound like it, although there will probably be light moments, and secondly, uh, what part of ENGLISH ski jumper does that person not understand?

Learning more and more, I think this could be a great film. It would probably be a film people love too. It’s the underdog getting somewhere but yet the good guy isn’t going to finish first. It’s sounds heartwarmingly sad!

I already said this in the forums, but I could see this in a way similar to “Cool Runnings”. If you’ve never seen that one, check it out.
And Rupert, ski-jumping’s also called “Formula1 of the wintertime”, so…

well so far Rupert has had a great hand in picking his movies so if he picks it we can be sure he believes in the story and playing a man struggling to realize his dreams sounds like great acting material.
