June 27, 2009, 3:30 am–In a new interview with the Telegraph actor Rupert Grint talks about the long awaited kiss between he and his Harry Potter co-star Emma Watson, and even opens up a little bit about his personal relationships with girls.
“I’ve never been seriously involved with anyone. I’ve certainly never been in love. I’ve always preferred to keep things casual,” he said. It’s not that I find it hard to meet girls – they do come up and chat me up from time to time. Sometimes I’m interested, I tend not to go for the prettier ones. I prefer the quirkier types.”
As for Ron and Hermione, recently Emma Watson announced that the two had indeed filmed the scene but kept her comment very vague saying it took about six takes and they were done. Rupert calling the experience uncomfortable because Emma is like a sister to him still manages to give us a bit more details on what it was like for the two!
“We were determined to get it right the first time, but our first try was a disaster because we both felt so self-conscious and we couldn’t stop laughing.”

Most good actors are insecure about their abilities. They never say they are the best thing out there. They have a tendency to be shy and they don’t do well in social settings (unless it’s with friends) and they admit eventually at some time in their career, that’s why they act, it helps them ease some of those insecurities.

First of all, thanks Rupert for finally giving us a bit more details on THE KISS.
We all know Rupert is humble, a bit shy and he has already admitted to being not the most confident person. I think that’s what draws us to him. Although we’ve all felt that he has gained more confidence over the last two years, this year especially (Year of the Grint!!)
Maybe we shouldn’t be too worried about this. Rupert, from what we see of him in public, is a generally positive, cheerful and happy person who is loved by his family and friends (and his fans of course, but I was talking about people he interacts with regularly). He might have self-doubts, but he is strong and clever and won’t let himself put down by that. And he has us fans, fans who really care for his art. And through our support we will make him see that he is a good actor.
It’s a normal and very healthy reaction to worry about the future, especially in such a volatile business. It just shows how smart Rupert is that he doesn’t take it for granted that he’ll have a huge career just because of his HP fame. And, in a way, it’s better he doubts himself a bit than being arrogant. That makes him a better actor, because he’ll always strive to learn and give the best out of him. He’ll never be self-sufficient.

It’s understandable. The one constant guarantee in his life is about to be over. Ten years of HP and the big money machine backing it will be over. Of course he’s feeling insecure about it all. Who wouldn’t. He’s got a great film sitting on the shelf (so to speak) and he’s second guessing his career choice. Nothing wrong with that. Hell, my husband second guesses his career choice every year. lol If it’s true, I don’t begrudge him this moment. All actors have these moments of doubt. You hear it all the time. The “finding out I’m a fraud” or “People will realize I’m a lousy actor”. When it’s all said and done, Rupert Grint will continue making movies and we’ll all be there for him.

As someone who Ivana has said is pretty much a Rupert clone in the natal chart area, I understand him.

I agree with Suzeeq and Ivana. There are many actors who face this each time a project ends. They get jumpy that another project won’t come along soon enough. He has had a constant job with HP, and that’s about to end. He’s had plenty of opportunity while on hiatus (CB and WT) — but perhaps he’s feeling frustration over those projects just like we are. Gees, even Meryl Streep has said she’s always afraid of when her next project will come (Oprah interview for the film “The Hours”)
On top of all that, he’s 20 years old! Don’t you guys remember that stage of
development and maturity? One goes through a stage of choosing a career/meaning/identity over and over. His is a little delayed because HP always made his near future a certain one : actor. It’s natural to question.It’s natural to doubt.

Though I’m a bit sad that he kind of has a low self-esteem when it comes to his career, I think it’s a good sign that he has some doubts. That means that he takes his job seriously and wants to do it as good as he can, so he’ll try to get better and better with time
That’s professionalism. And the fact that an actress like Meryl Streep has the same thoughts just confirms it. I know for sure that GOOD actors really worry about their job and are constantly doubting their talent. They are their worst critics.
As a matter of fact, I hate it when actors say that their job is a piece of cake. That’s completely arrogant and plainly false. Acting is being millions of different people. Just looking at the street and checking people makes you realize how hard of a job acting is… I remember Emma once said: ‘Acting is sooooo easy!!’ in an interview she did in CoS era, I think. Normal, her idea of acting is putting faces and voices, but she doesn’t impersonate her characters (no offense to Emma fans, I just don’t like her artificial acting). If you do that, of course it’s easy!! That’s a piece of cake. But the real acting is another thing… I kind of like the idea that Rupert is so worried about his future career because that means he realizes that what he does is very difficult and requieres talent, that is, that he respects his job
