March 5, 2009, 9:22PM–As you have probably heard, the man who stabbed Harry Potter actor Robert Knox to death was jailed for life this morning. The 18-year-old Knox was killed in a frenzied attack outside a bar in southeast of London in June 2008, as he tried to protect his younger brother. You will also remember that Rupert Grint attended the funeral, as you may read here. Today, The Sun posted a photo of Rob’s mother Sally Knox with a copy of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, where his fellow HP actors have left comforting messages. The Knox family has decided to release this, because they vowed to campaign to stamp out knife crime among British youngsters.

Among the actors who paid tribute to Rob Knox is Rupert Grint, who wrote:
“Rob, It was an honour to have known you and whenever I’m on the Southend strip I’ll be thinking of you. Rest in peace mate.”
You can read the article here, and view the image in our gallery here.

UPDATE: This is a Blag Magazine update: I was informed that they’ve had a hectic week and haven’t had the chance to put up the new picture of Rupert. They will let us know immediately when it is available. Stay tuned!

  1. I’m just sulking around my house right now… This is really getting to me. It was nice of Rupes and Dan to right a message. :)

  2. Modify that smiley to a.. frown. :(

  3. Too bad that the image is low-res, it would be great to be able to read all the messages.

  4. Very sweet of them all to write messages. Losing someone so young, it just breaks my heart.

  5. i was trying to magnify the pic to see who wrote what but no luck. writting in the book was very nice of them and Rupert going to the funeral just shows what a caring guy he is.

  6. I have just corrected gallery links on that old news post (the funeral one). Man I remember we were all shocked when that happened, especially because, like, five kids were stabbed in London in less than a month. It’s horrible, and I admire Rob’s family for trying to save some more lives by raising awareness…

  7. That’s a lovely message from Rupert. And so nice of the other castmates, too. I’d like to see the rest of the messages, as well. Such a senseless loss of life.

  8. That is sad and also because I remember how emotional Rupert was from those pictures. I think Rob’s parents are doing great by campaigning for her cause because this is people’s lives! :(

  9. That is so sweet of them and Rupert’s message is so lovely I cried when I read his message to him. It’s so sad Rupert is such a caring guy going to his funeral and everything

  10. Aww. Rupert you are the best! I imagine his family will always cherish something like that. I know I would!

  11. That is a really touching tribute by the cast. What a horrible loss for the Knox family.

I hope it’s some comfort to them to know the person who did this will have to answer for his crime and will hopefully never be able to put another family through such pain again.

  12. I love how simple and heartfelt Rupert’s message is to Rob and his family. I can’t imagine how that must feel to lose someone in such a violent manner, I hope that the killer behind bars brings some kind of comfort to the Knox family.

There’s a petition you can sign, too. I just signed it, I didn’t think I could being from the US, but it took. It’s 74,000 something signatures already. Wow.

  13. This is so sad,and Rupert is as always so sweet. It’s very nice what him and everyone else did for Rob.

  14. this is so beautiful and sad at the same time, Rupert’s message was so simple and full of honesty, very touching :( I think his message is not in that page, but it’s hard to tell.
Michelle do you have a link for that petition?

  15. oh, nvm, it’s on the article

  16. This is more then a shame and a waist of a talented life. For God’s sake, now the Brits simply say “we need knife control.” Arm the police–trust the police–and give back the right to bare arms to law abiding citizens—>trust the citizens–and the insane knife problems your experiencing will lessen greatly. “Outlaw” knives like you outlawed guns, and you will be wondering why so many are getting killed by cricket bats.

I’m not trying to be funny. This is upsetting, and it shouldn’t have happened….

The killer gets only 20 years…no death penalty threat at all, no lifetime behind bars….(no comment required)

  17. Well Mike, I hear you man, but there is no such thing as death penalty in the UK; and the killer was sentenced to lifetime behind bars, but he can appeal and get released after 20 years. But not before he has already served those 20 years. In any case, nothing can bring Rob Knox back, so any sentence is small comfort to his family. :(
I can’t imagine how difficult it will be for the entire HP cast and crew to watch his scenes in HBP, once the movie is released…

  18. yeah Ivana – and cant even imagine how it will be for his family to watch HBP… on the other hand – a great way to remember Rob…

  19. It’s so kind of Rupert and Dan and other HP cast and crew to pay all these moving tribute .God bless them and Rob’s family.
    R.I.P, Rob……..

ps: it may be a little ot, but ,what is “Southend strip “????

  20. Holly I have no idea… Maybe it’s a pub, although there’s also a town called Southend… or maybe that was their private joke.

  21. I wondered that too. I googled yesterday and the closest I got was the town Southend has an area, a strip, where there’s tons of various activities available. It said something like you can ride horses, go Harley riding, and play games, and other stuff I can’t remember now.

  22. Thanks Ivana!! I think the same as you do……whatever it is,it must be somewhere with their happy memories…….it’s so sweet of Rupert to give a message so sincere and unaffected to Rob and his family,I’m so proud of him……..

  23. Oh ,thanks talley !

  24. Everything I can think of to say seems so trite. A son, a brother, a friend was lost forever. I hope his family and friends are healed a little bit from the conviction of his murderer. I’m sure some of the cast and crew are included in that group. It’s wonderful that they were given the opportunity to express their thoughts about Rob and help the family’s cause at the same time.

I never know what to say for something like this.

  25. Beautiful gest,really symbolic.

  26. I think Rupert was just referring to “South London” in general. That was where Knox was from and where he died. :(

    I’m soooo bored.

  27. I don’t really have anything of importance to say. However, I noticed what MikeUSA wrote (about allowing cops to have guns to stop the knifings, etc…) I’m not for or against anything anyone has said, I just wanted to comment that where I’m from teens and young adults get killed with guns everyday. We have armed cops and there’s still mad killing all of the time (I’m not exaggerating.)

Our state has been debating recently or repealing the death penalty.

Again, I’m not putting out any opinion on the matter, I was just bringing it up.

  28. AJ these things happen everywhere… Manchester has been nicknamed “Gunchester” by local gangs.

  29. I was wondering the same thing Holly…

  30. That’s the sweetest thing. It’s heartbreaking. This whole thing is just heartbreaking. R.I.P

  31. He was also on a short clip on ITV regional news.

  32. Thanks for the update lovely ladies! I was wondering about that magazine!!!

  33. Ooooh, hectic? I hope that means they got lots and lots of orders.

  34. That magazine is gonna make me crazy.

  35. Hectic Week? Does that hectic week involve Rupert??? :D

  36. This magazine is going to make me crazy oh my gosh there is 4 more days left!

  37. They week is probably so hectic because they was probably alot of people that bought magazines on line and they probably want to send them out on the same day they come out in stores I can’t wait to get my copies!

  38. It must be because of that! Half of the people that ordered the magazine must be from ICM! LOL And i can’t even ask for a copy at the moment, damn it,i wonder if i ever gonna get one…I need it! :(

  39. It was so lovely by the cast to pay this form of tribute. And of course Rupert’s was sweet, honest and genuine. I wouldn’t have expected less of this wonderful guy. I hope someday the family will get their peace back. At the moment, while it must be somewhat relieving to see the murderer convicted, it must still be also very painful to have all those feelings come up again.

Hectic week for Blag? I can imagine. I guess they are quite overwhelmed. Although they are excited to have had the chance to feature Rupert in their magazine, they might have underestimated his fandom and how much that certain volume would be requested. But that is good news. Wonder if they’re already printing additional copies…

  40. lol I should have asked! I have no idea, but I’d like to believe that the magazine requests was just so overwhelming and unexpected, that they had to accommodate. :p

  41. they are probably overwhelmed they probably didnt expect to have this magazine hit so big already guys we have 3 days left now!!

  42. REal sad what happen to rob i hope every body doesnt become depressed or anything…:(

  43. It’s been almost a year since it’s happened, and I still can’t believe it.
I really hope Half Blood Prince is dedicated to Rob Knox.
