No Wild Target news yet, I’m afraid… However we found something amusing: The Noble Collection (known for very high quality movie products) has started featuring some new Harry Potter products in the newest issue of Sky Mall. Among the new items that can be seen on Sky Mall’s site below is Ron’s Heart Necklace, priced at mere $79! As you might have noticed, it’s the same necklace as seen on this 2009 HBP Calendar scan here!

The thing with Empire is that it’s unlikely that we’ll be hearing from them anytime soon. They usually prepare all their articles at least 3-4 months in advance, and the December issue actually goes on sale in October. Why, I have no idea. Anyway, even if we’re successful, we can’t expect to see Rupert featured before January-February. But that would actually be perfect.
Oh, re: going to the Isle of Man, as I said in the previous comment thread (dunno if you’ve seen it), I still haven’t given up that option yet. But I’m trying to do what’s sensible, I’d rather save up some cash for something that’s 100% verified than go there, wander around as a fool and not even get a chance to meet the cast & crew. I hate waiting for news, we all do, but I’m not too desperate… yet!

There is no confirmation on any release dates for Rupert’s films. One article threw out a January date for Cherrybomb but that wasn’t confirmed. So who knows? They still have time to fit that time frame if they finish post-production by November. I really hope it’s released early next year so he can have lots of FREE time to spend on promoting the film, not just in the UK, but overseas as well. He’ll probably be promoting Wild Target during DH filming so that’ll be a bit tough on him. SUPER busy Rupert in 2009 ya’ll!

wickedjo, the scene in the book when Ron gets his sweetheart present at the burrow actually didn’t make it into the movie. I guess they just cut to him wearing it after christmas break and you see Ron not looking that pleased in the calendar picture.

Perhaps, the necklace is around his neck in the movies, but of course, they didn’t mention it. You know how things happen in the movies, but aren’t explained and you’d only know because you’ve read the book.

Oh yeah since I was on the plane recently, that SKYMALL once again pissed me off. You know in the magazine they always come out with a collection for each HP movie. This year they did HBP too and They ALWAYS just show Harry and Hermione. Same thing this year and NO RON picture but they did have the Heart Necklace. The rest was Hermione’s light wand and even the damn Yule Ball ear-rings.

To be fair to Emma, I think all of the fashion show attendance and the photoshoots were planned far in advance as part of promotion for HBP when it was still coming out in November. Part of promotion of a movie would be to start putting the stars out in the public eye, such as attending industry events and other movie premiers. Fashion Week in Paris coincided nicely with what would have been the start of promotion for HBP.
With the photoshoots, especially, they probably had her locked in to do that and once the film release was moved, they couldn’t just go in and change the editorial calendar for those magazines, so they went ahead anyway.

I can by that Fugitive as it does make sense. Plus remember the premiere that all the HP stars attended including Jessie? That was her ‘coming out party’ like they did with Katie and Rob in GoF. Only obviously when they went to the premiere, I think Rupert was suppose to go too but was filming and Jessie brought another redhead. lol Any ways, the problem though is, where is the promotion from Rupert? If the WB had a set plan and was promoting everyone and pushing them around and Emma couldn’t get out of it, why aren’t we seeing more from Rupert? Are they not promoting him like they are Emma? Dan’s is hard to say because of Equus, but if this is the result of “set in motion” plans, then the WB doesn’t give two shits about Rupert and didn’t send him any where. I think they are all doing a great job and what’s best for them. It’s not about what they are doing, but it’s the media giving value to some while not to others. Unfortunately, that’s the world.
I see that in other things (other movies when some stars are mentioned and others aren’t in the headlines.)
One mag I know did a Teen Vogue type thing for this actress, I think they could have put her on the cover too….
She may not be as well known as the others (she’s fabulous), but she’s wonderful…

AJ, I agree, but not technically the point. If the WB is sending Emma on these shoots, then why aren’t they sending Rupert? They don’t care about him, or don’t think highly enough of him then! But if it is what you say, which I think is possible too and it is just coincidence that it’s happening now, then Rupert’s people aren’t doing their job. You guys have to remember that Emma shot all her current photoshoots during the middle of the summer because these things are usually done in advanced. We all know where Rupert was…. the boy was busy filming Cherrybomb. SO if it was HP promo, which I think it is on Emma’s part, Rupert was probably going to do his stuff in Aug/Sept but then the movie got pushed back and Rupert jumped straight into another movie.

Well, Rupert did attend that Tiger Woods golf event.
And as far as photoshoots, I don’t think Rupert would have done fashion photoshoots as promotion for HBP. He’d be more on the talk show circuit as he was for OOTP. And those are obviously not still going to stick to the same schedule with HBP more than half a year away.
Any magazine promotion would have probably been for a weekly, like EW, or Newsweek, and that kind of stuff would be up to the minute, not planned far in advance like a fashion photoshoot, where you have to secure the clothes, the location, the highly sought-after photographer.
And come on, you can’t really fault Emma for college-hunting.

In one new interview Emma said that Jo told her sth like “You’ll be great at anything you do”. Sounded a lot like she was thinking about giving up acting. I mean, why does she keep doing photoshoots instead of actual films?! Or theatre. “Website of British ACTRESS Emma Watson”??? And someone said somewhere that Emma was at a model agency as well, so maybe it’s not WB behind those shoots.
As for Rupert: That guy needs a decent holiday before they start shooting DH! Dan comes straight from Equus, but he doesn’t have any films beside HBP to promote while filming. Give Rupert a break!!!

Actually photoshoots might take a day, if that. He had time between HBP and CB to do stuff, and between CB and WT. And if nothing else comes up, he should have plenty of time to do other things. If the WB did try to promote, they’re only really using Emma which is annoying. I realize Rupert wants to act more, but they need to utilize him. Especially when HBP centers more around Ron and the R/Hr relationship! And having watched WT, there will be times that Rupert is NOT filming… maybe not long, maybe a day or two, but I think he’d have off a bit in WT filming. And if he can do the golf event, he could do photoshoots. He had a month and a half off, maybe a bit more, before filming WT… so the WB could have used him, and they didn’t. I’m purely upset over this because they obviously do not care.

Laura, photoshoots usually are done in advanced. The Flare photoshoot Emma did was shot in early August and it finally comes out in the middle of October. These things take time.
Rupert has to do print-media magazine type promo and I really hope he hits up the major ones like Empire, Details, Arena, GQ, EW…etc.
MTV seem really connected with CB so the promo team are going to target that demographic when they publicize the movie.
RUPERT HAS TO BE EVERYWHERE.
^ During the break between the end of WT filming and DH. filming…. that’s the perfect window for Rupert to pace himself and still make a HUGE impact.
I think as he goes through promoting these films, by the time HBP rolls around next summer, he’ll be so much more comfortable with handling the media and just being out there more.

I think the interview circuits are what was planned for him, like during OOTP, and we’ll see that once the promotion for the film starts.
As far as WB neglecting him for Emma, well, the calendar pics that have come out would seem prove that otherwise. Ron’s character seems to be given much more of a spotlight this time around. At least I’m crossing every appendage that that continues to hold true.

She is trying to get the attention of the fashion houses. She is opening the door for more modeling jobs (hence this could be the modeling agency she is working with getting her invited to all these fashion shows). Good opportunity also to get connected to NY if modeling is where she is going to concentrate her career on.

Like I said, locations have to be secured, the photographer, hair, and makeup artists contracted way in advance, getting the clothes, etc. Not to mention the advertising that is sold into the article, the promotion for the designers of the fashions being shown. That is all set way in advance, and backing out because the movie release date was pushed back would not have been an option. That’s why we are seeing all of these photoshoots of Emma right now.
Rupert, on the other hand, would most likely not have done fashion photoshoots as promotion, as much as I’d like to see that. If he was going to be in magazines, like I said, it would have probably been in a weekly, without all the artsy photos. Now that there isn’t anything to promote for awhile, it wouldn’t make sense for a weekly to put out anything that might or might not have featured Rupert. And interviews, again, will have to wait until closer to the release.

I remember reading in the MTV interview that Rupert said he was very tired while filming CB since it’s so much more fast-pace than what they do on the Potter films. So maybe he is getting invitations to big events but he is just too tired to party all night. Same with Wild Target filming… it’s more actiong pack and therefore so much more tiring to film. It’s also very professional of Rupert to focus on his acting jobs and not let these other things distract him.
But when promo starts, he has to kick it to the next level and play with the big boys.

But see, we were talking more about the photoshoots that she’s doing. I’m not entirely convinced of the fashion week because, as you know, she has channel, so that could be the link. Just like Details was a link to Equus. Usually around this time they send them out to public events like premieres and such for other WB movies. Remember in 2005 he went and saw the Batman Beings movie (WB). In 2007 he went to the Fantastic Four premiere. I’m convinced in 2008 he would have seen The Dark Knight but couldn’t because of CB filming commitments. And that’s fine, but he could do plenty of photoshoots, and this would not only help the WB sell HP but he could be promoting the upcoming film projects he’s doing. So yes, I do believe the WB doesn’t put him out there on mags and crap to promote their films. And that bothers me. Because I never see him not do other promotions, that wasn’t even a question. It’s when you say Emma is on these magazines to promote HP and Rupert isn’t even seen.

You know Bonnie, Evanna, Jessie Cave and Matt all went to the Batman premiere… WB definitely pimping HP out there, but these guys didn’t really generate much press at all. I think I only saw Evanna on some showbiz show from the Dark Knight premiere. All the other potter kids just didn’t register on the radar. I don’t think Bonnie even walked the red carpet properly (maybe she arrived really late and went straight in?)

See Ki, I think that was a premiere Rupert was suppose to go to since he did Batman Begins. And they got Jessie paired up with a redhead during that time. So it’s just one of those things you wonder about. But I really do believe that was beginning promotion.
And I agree that I don’t see Rupert really on these covers as much, but you know Vman, which I think is Men’s Vogue, they did a really nice feature on Twilight men. Like it or not, the point I’m making is, they didn’t do anything fancy at all and they had some wonderful shots of all the males from the movie. And I can see Rupert doing much of the same to promote HP and having the chance to create buzz for CB and WT. Or some of the film magazines out there. Maybe not the huge ones like EW, but some of the lesser ones that a lot of movie buffs might pick up. He could even do some with the indie movie circuit, I’ve seen a lot of those around! There are all kinds of mags that are more Rupert’s style… and I think he could attract those people to read about HP and his other projects quite easily.

It’s all about timing. It doesn’t make sense for Rupert to be heavily promoting movies that aren’t being released for another *whimper* nine months, or that aren’t finished filming, or that don’t have a set release date yet. And since he’s not going to do fashion photoshoots, at least not for HBP, what’s left is stuff that has to wait until closer to the release date.
All I’m saying is I’m taking a wait and see attitude about it. It may turn out that he IS woefully neglected during promotion for HBP, or it may not. But we can’t say for certain now that he will be just because Emma has done some fashion magazines.

This is an interesting discussion, I agree with you guys that all this photoshoots were probably made to fall in HBP promotion era, which obviously they don’t anymore, I hadn’t quite thought about that,.but yeah. Rupert is indeed the only one of the trio that didn’t do any photoshoot recently (Dan did Details), the only media buzz we’re getting with him is about CB or WT, not HP, which is disappointing because they really made me think they were going to promote him much more this year, with all the Ron pics and keeping so much of Ron’s storyline in the movie (at least from what we read on the reports). I mean wtf? Hermione was barely promoted in all those pics! Although, it is also true that Emma’s team may chase this photoshoots/interviews a bit more, and while Rupert IS professional and would do it, I don’t think he’ll mind not doing them either, because…well, I may be wrong, but I don’t think Rupert really cares so much for seating down with a group of people deciding what he wants to do to promote himself, where should he be seen and with whom, and what mags should he be in…he just seems to be interested in doing his thing, which is acting, and he does some promotion and all but he’s not eager to be out there in the spotlight, if that makes any sense? his team does get stuff for him but just not as much as Emma’s and Dan’s…still, WB should “make” him (you know, convince him) to do a bit more promotion, since we all know Ron will totally own HBP

Dude I’m a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan and he is barely filming Sherlock Holmes. Do you know how many set interviews and buzz there is for this movie? When CB promo starts up, we’ll see how right we are. I’m hoping he blows us away like he has been with everything he’s touched this summer. He has made some really smart decisions by keeping on workin’.
I love that MTV are so interested in Cherrybomb. Did they immediately get a quick interview out of him when the HBP trailer came out? MTVBlog have Rupert on speed dial
With MTV…. it target the American audience so right there that proves the CB people are going to push hard promoting the movie in the US. So hopefully it’ll be more than a one film festival and a few local TV interviews like he did with DL. -_-

I agree, wicked jo. Rupert definitely strikes me as someone who prefers to let his work speak for itself.
I don’t think it’s a big secret that he’s not the most comfortable with doing interviews and being in the limelight. Like that quote we saw here not too long ago about him kind of shrugging it off when people were chanting his name at a premiere. Here we are all fretting that he’s not pushed out there that much, and he’s probably thanking his lucky stars he’s not. He’s got the best of both worlds: he’s a star in the biggest movie franchise in history, he’s doing what he loves, he’s getting lots of work and offers, and yet he gets to keep his privacy for the most part. And that probably will change, poor lamb, as his work gets more recognized (and it will), so he’s probably not too worried about it right now.

well, AJ I’m not sure about flashdrives, I only know a bit about computers and the language barrier is there too you know, but. I use this program called DVDVideSoftFreeStudio (long name I know lol) you can download it from free in the Internet (google it, shouldn’t be hard to find, but let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll tru to help). You can use it to extract vids or only the sound of a vid, and you can convert the vid to iPhone, Ipod, Cell Phone or PSP format. I really love it

Oh, and something, actually a BIG factor into how much promotion Rupert does for CB and WT has to do with the budget. I can imagine they have quite a lot less to work with than “Sherlock Holmes,” and in order to spend it judiciously, they would be wise to save promotion money for close to the release date. They can’t really afford to spread promotion money out for a long term.
Not sure about WT, how much of a budget they’d have for that. Seeing as how they are still in the midst of filming, I’m not surprised we’re seeing anything yet for that.

Hey ladies, I just read through all your comments regarding Emma’s photoshoots and why Rupert hasn’t gotten anything.
ITA that IF the shoots were arranged by WB (and that’s an assumption – we don’t know) they happened before the film was pushed back. As someone mentioned, that’s when Rupert was filming CB and therefore wouldn’t have been available. I actually don’t think that those photoshoots or her attendance at fashion shows were placed by WB at all, I think they were placed by Emma’s own management. People know she’s into fashion, and except for the one in Italian Vogue, HP was not the primary focus of the shoots, they mentioned everything she’s up to.
Besides that, Dan had a lot of promo, but his was all for Equus, not for HP. If any of that had been HP-related it would have been obvious, but it wasn’t, which is why I think Emma’s fashion shoots were lined up by her management and had nothing to do with HP. In the past almost all the HP-related stuff has been with the Trio. I think this is just Emma’s management making sure she stays in the media before ToD and HBP come out. It’s not WB leaving out Rupert (and Dan) in favor of Emma.
I’m not bothered by the fact that there’s no Rupert stuff right now, because he clearly had no time between CB and WT to do anything, and won’t have time until he’s finished filming WT to do any interviews. I’m confident that we’re going to see a lot of Rupert in the media once CB comes out because everyone doing stories on him will know that he’s got three films coming out in 2009. Pretty hard to ignore that, and if his own PR team is any good they’ll be landing coverage like crazy. If not, I’ll wonder why, since I used to do PR myself.
I’m hoping that he’ll give some great interviews and that the interviews will be accompanied by fantastic photo shoots that will show how gorgeous he is!

See, now I’m confused. First we’re saying that Emma is doing all this to promote HP because it was done before it was pushed back and she couldn’t get out of it. Agreed. Fine, that makes sense too. Hi Quotidias! I agree in a lot of ways. I think that we forget that the WB was also mulling the idea over for several months and became more of a reality in the weeks before it pushed back. I think that was the reason for the delay in the trailer, too. They had figured this months ago and only made the announcement when they did. And I think also that a lot of this stuff wasn’t recent, as it could’ve been pushed back just as easily. I think these photoshoots were done during HP filming like most things are. Usually around the last month or so of filming. So all three could’ve been doing promotion already… I think what Emma is doing is fashion stuff, plain and simple. But if it isn’t, then the WB makes me quite angry.

Tao, the photoshoots Emma did are promos for WB. She does them everytime around HP promos. Everything else she has done is not WB promo. Yes, her people arrranges them and these shoot were done months before the release of the movie (that’s how they always do it.). Remember teenvogue was done in October but the magazine was not shown until May-June (close enough for OOTP promo). That’s how they are planned. That’s why people always get confused about the articles, because the interviews are conducted about 6 months before the magazine hits the stands.

Tao, because he didn’t do a fashion photoshoot as promotion. If he had, then we’d be probably be seeing it, too. His promotion will most likely be interviews. That won’t happen until promotion for WB kicks into high gear. Does that make sense?
And so if you count the tons of calendar/poster/sticker book pics we’ve been getting for HBP as the “buzz” being generated for HBP, then Rupert is actually getting a pretty decent amount of exposure, I’d say. He’s probably second only to Harry and Dumbledore in the amount of pics we’ve seen.
I’m not defending WB, I’m just trying to point out that it might be premature to assume Rupert will be getting the short end of the stick in HBP promotion.

LOL That is kind of crazy. There is a very good resemblance, and better than some of the other things I’ve seen of actor vs. actor. I’m all, “because their eyes are a touch same they look alike?” I’d like to see an updated picture of Rupert next to this guy.
See Lilly, I think we misinterpret Rupert. I think what Rupert is saying is that he doesn’t care for all the glitz and glam of the being a star. Doing so much promotion and doing outrageous photoshoots. But I don’t think he minds doing them and would do them. Just seeing how much fun he had in the Parade shoot and Tribeca Portraits shows to me that he doesn’t hate them. He likes being himself though, and not all that crazy stuff. And he always seems to have a good time in some of those HP promos too.

I could see them doing a photoshoot like that to promote CB. A big part of the draw for that film will be a chance for audiences who only know him as “Ron Weasley” to see him in something so far removed from that persona. This would be a way to give them a taste of what the film is like. I could see him doing a photoshoot where he’s dressed casually, but edgy, intense, dangerous (and sexy) looking, to go with the dark theme of the movie. More grown-up. With his fierce-face on, rather than his usual charming smile.

Rupert does like it for the most part and he said himself he was slowly getting use to it and easing his way into it, so it’s quite annoying that some people think Rupert just hates it because he doesn’t. Lacey, that’s not how the business works. They are under contract to WB. That contract states in it the publicity that they will do while promoting HP. They have no say.
On his own time, he does what he wants as long as it will not harm him in anyway, (still under contract), but he can attend events on his own and basically live his life when he isn’t working.
