Please Update At Popstar!

Many of you may remember last year how we flooded Popstar.com‘s website in order to make Rupert Grint the winner for 2007. Due to growth over the website since then, Sam has asked if I’d pass along a message. Due to COPPA regulations you’ll need to update all relevant information on your account to show date-of-birth (so they know who is under the age of 13, though no one under this age will be blocked!) or all fan letters left for Rupert will be deleted along with your registration.

To update your account:  http://my.popstar.com/Account/Update/

If you have forgotten your username or password:  http://my.popstar.com/Account/Forgot/

To retrieve your secret code:  http://my.popstar.com/Account/Secret/

To contact Popstar.com if you need help in any way:  http://corporate.popstar.com/Contact_Us/Account_Services/

You can also directly log in to their account and it will redirect them to the update form with some of the information pre-populated (including the secret code) to make it easier for them; they can log in from http://www.popstar.com/

This year’s now-called “love awards” winners will now be given a trophy. Rupert will also receive one from 2007 but will be different from the what will be given to the winner of the 2008 awards. There will be more details to come on that, so stay tuned!

I hope that we Rupert fans can make it two years in a row for him! So let’s not delay in updating your info. :)

Didn’t Sam mention last year that whoever won in 2007 (i.e. Rupert) can not be a title contestant next year? Or maybe he’s changed the rules. *off to Popstar to read new rules*

  2. karo says:

How stupid would that be?! But anyway, 2009 will be the year of MAGICAL WILD CHERRIES!!! :)

  3. Ivana says:

Oh Karo, I will email you tonight, sorry for the delay! Mea culpa!!!

  4. karo says:

No prob, but I’m already pretty excited! :)

  5. karo says:

JO! Erm…, whenever you’re online, I’ve sent you a mail, but it might have been become spam, as there’s something attached to it… it’s some DL stuff…

  6. wicked jo says:

    updated mine already
one question though: if not enough people validate it and their letters are deleted, can Rupert loose because of that? I really hope not, that would be unfair…

  7. suzeeq says:

No, he won for 2007 already, but the fan letters are stored, so if you don’t update, your fan letters you wrote to him will be deleted along with your account.

  8. Tao says:

I’ll have to ask Sam, but I thought he meant that he couldn’t win any individual months, but he could win the yearly one again.

    Yeah, what suzeeq said. :)

  9. Laura says:

Ohmygod you can actually reread all the messages you wrote to Rupert!! *lmao*

Gah tomorrow first day of college!

  10. Jo says:

Karo got it! I’m home early since we have the hurricane coming! Yikes! I will reply right back to you! Oh and yes people pass the word to everybody to update their popstar accounts! I gotta do mine too!!!

  11. Tao says:

Heh. IMDB finally updated Wild Target, but they have the nerve to call this a rumor! I guess it’s not legit until some news source like variety posts it. Annoying! Most fansites do get this type of news first! And it’s written on the director’s freakin’ website!

  12. Lilly says:

Jo, I thought about you when I saw about the hurricane on the news.
Keep calm dear , don´t go to shopping! :)

And this thing about PopStar is very strange.
Didn´t them send yet the messages to Rupert?Or they just have the link?. And where´s Rupert ´s answer for all those messages?
I think PS have all my informations there since I got almost everyday their email.

  13. Jo says:

Lilly Rupert got the Popstar and did say thanks for all of the support and he was overwhelmed by it all. We were going to update that response though along with the birthday stuff so in due time. :) OK fine I won’t go shopping!

  14. suzeeq says:

When I sent in the additions to Wild Target, I didin’t add names because I figured they would change. I added the director, but I guess they didn’t believe it so I am going to add him again and post his website as proof. Stupid idiots that run that site.

  15. suzeeq says:

    I meant “character” names. hehehehe

  16. Okay, just to answer a few questions…

There is no restriction stating that someone cannot win in more than one year; and Tao is right, that was regarding the monthly contests, which never actually happened.

We ended up going a different route. We run a lot of different contests that run on a weekly and monthly basis now, but then there’s the annual contest.

A lot has changed; the top one hundred celebrities receive their letters this year, and the top five receive a special love award trophy along with those letters.

I felt this was a better approach than having everyone fighting to get to the top spot; this way, you can support all of your favorite stars without having to pick just one.

And accounts that do end up getting deleted will not hurt Rupert’s placement for 2007; he earned that spot, with your support, and no one can ever take that away from him.

What it will do is remove some of the letters he received; so for posterity, I would hope that everyone would *want* to take the few moments necessary to update their accounts.

And although it cannot hurt his placement for 2007, it could potentially have a negative effect for his placement in 2008. He’s currently #21 on the list, which is pretty good considering his fans haven’t participated that heavily this year.

This is not something we are doing maliciously; it’s a matter of complying with the law. Due to the growth of our website and the addition of social networking features, we are now bound by COPPA and must comply with it.

If a person doesn’t update their account, we have no way of knowing how old that person is, so we have to err on the safe side and remove their profile and information; but we are giving you plenty of time to do this.

That’s why we’re reaching out to the major fan sites that have participated in the past and present, to make sure there is enough coverage that at least the vast majority of users know what is taking place.

  17. suzeeq says:

Okay, I submitted my corrections. I corrected the “rumored” for Rupert and gave the directors website as proof.
I added Jonathan Lynn’s name (I know I did that when I added Rupert’s name to the list),
I didn’t change anyone elses because although we know Emily Blunt is not rumored, Jonathan Lynn hasn’t changed the status of HBC, so everyone I left as is.
So hopefully, in two weeks, it shall be somewhat correct. :)

  18. Tao says:

    Thanks for all that Sam!

Suzeeq, knowing IMDB, they won’t care. lol I think they hated that reputation that anyone could add anything and begin checking for authenticity. But they’re not looking for it! They should let you show proof. Idiots! They go from on extreme to the next.

  19. Laura says:

Gotta admit. Although most of the time IMBD can kiss my ass, a huge grin appeared on my face when I saw Wild Target on Rupert’s page.

*squees* 4 more days till filming.

  20. suzeeq says:

Well, I am getting the “rumored” bullshit off of that page. lol

Yeah Tao, they actually emailed me for my source to the correct spelling of Cherrybomb. I used ICM as my source. I said someone from promotions gave ICM the correct spelling. lol I don’t know if they took my word for it or not.

So Rupert’s and Jessie’s kiss sounds like it’s gonna be hot. Muy Caliente. hehehe I am looking forward to seeing that.
