Many lucky fans got to see an ‘early preview’ of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince tonight in the Chicago area, courtesy of Warner Bros. A lot of these folks are posting their, sometimes very detailed, reviews on Mugglenet, The-Leaky-Cauldron, and IMDB to name a few places. In the comments below many people are posting spoilers copied from these reviews, so please enter at your own risk. All spoilers are Ron-centric and we hope to find a non-spoiler Rupert Grint offering.
Folks wanting to know about Rupert in this movie, but staying spoiler free, from the sounds of it the powers that be have been good to us and given Rupert a lot to do in this movie! According to the reviewers he has been given more screen time, and there are plenty of memorable Ron, Ron/Hermione and Ron/Hermione/Lavender scenes throughout the movie. Let’s hope they all make it into the final cut!

Ron was not as much of a jerk as in the book but kind of clueless. I was disappointed that they did not show on of my favorite scenes in the book when Ron and Ginny are fighting and she tells him that Hermione snogged Victor Klum which really sent him over the edge and eventually into Lavendar’s arms. But there are plenty of other good shippy Ron/Hermione scenes in the movie. Lavendar was perfectly cast!

I hope they don’t cut out the Ron goodness. But from these reports coming in, it sounds like people really liked the Ron/Hermione/Lavender storyline, saying things like “hilarious” and “very funny.” If they get a lot of positive feedback about it, I’m sure they will keep most if not all of it.

Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes was awesome!!! I only wish it were a real store. Unfortunately no U-No-Poo sign, but it was still a sight to see.

Hermione showed big time jealousy! Emma Watson is excellent in these scenes. Hermione mentions asking McLagan out to make Ron jealous they do not show him being aware of their relationship on screen. The make up moment is sweet and touching but also kind of funny because Ron’s in the infirmary and the R/L break-up and Hermione make-up is witnessed by their teachers.

Yes she does ask him to the party and the scene in the library with her and harry talking about how he is at perfect liberty to see whoever he wants is there too. And so is the Opugno scene with hermione conjuring birds and shooting them at Ron. Though in the movie they miss him not attack but the intention is clear

I know JKR said hair, but it was always so confusing in the books. What did she smell? And if you go back and re-read and you don’t remember what she said, you’re at a lost again. The toothpaste thing is brilliant, actually. Because it lets the audience understand that Hermione is connecting a moment with Ron to her smell of things she loves. I have no problem with this.
And I do want all the dirt on the quidditch. Rupert is so touchingly earnest in the photos released that I want MORE details. He looks so nervous, like he’s about to be sick, and yet trying to be determined all the same. I want details! LOL

Oh God. He needs to do what Hermione does in PS/SS. “You’ve got dirt on your nose. Just there. Did you know?” But he has to make it all sexy and full of tension (which we know he will) and when he says “Did you know?” he should wipe it off for her.
And I was working on revamping Rave Reviews, and I laughed at how on the money this simple review is:

Okay this is from someone who was invited by email and isn’t a HP fan, so it’s intersting.
“I was invited by email a week ago to attend a test screening in Chicago. I went today and it turned out to be Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. it was almost complete. the only things that were missing were transitions and maybe 30%ish cgi. sound design also seemed kind of rough. the guy that introduced the movie said we were the first audience in the world to see it. it was a solid movie. i was worried during the first 25 minutes because it was very poorly paced but once they got to hogwarts things picked up and became more interesting. daniel radcliffe seemed to be going by the numbers and didnt have that good of a performance. rupert grint and tom felton were excellent however and jim broadbent (slughorn) stole the show. there was a lot of sexual tension that was pulled off very well. i would rank this chapter of the saga around the middle for quality and entertainment value, but of course it was still a rough cut so things will likely change – hopefully for the better. “

“Rupert Grint and Tom Felton were excellent however” <=–No surprise there. (Tom always did have talent too but sadly underused too.) But I bet Rupert will also get ‘scene stealer’. I remember a LOT of people were talking about Moody being a scene stealer, but when actual reviews came out, they often lumped Rupert into that along with other excellent comments.

If memory serves be I don’t think Hermione is at the Burrow during the attack. It was during Christmas and she was upset with Ron about Lavender during that time. Ron was not the focus of the attack on the Burrow Harry and Ginny were.
The first kiss of Lavender and Ron was witnessed by both Harry and Hermione. Harry watches with a stupid boyish grin and Hermione faces slowely turns from a smile to looking utterly heartbroken. She quietly turns away to leave, and just as she leaves Harry turns and notices. She is far less angry than she is just heartbroken. She does send the birds she conjures at Ron but she is not so much furious as she is crushed and hurt.
She does say to Harry later on in the movie when Lavender calls Ron “Won Won,”

Aww. Poor Hermione!
I remember a spoiler AGES back when someone who worked on the film described that scene and I think their exact words were, “Aw. Emma’s face was a picture.”
I thought Dan said in that Teen interview he wasn’t on set for the Ron/Lav kiss.
And that solidifies my theory that the pic of R/L at the common room celebration, that’s the back of Hermione’s head that Ron is almost turning towards. It must be right after the kiss and Hermione is just standing there in shock.

I know they do these previews cause I remember them talking about OOTP, but I’m not happy about it. I’m finally over the fact it’s coming out in July, and then they do this. I want to see it now too. Can I email someone and say, “just let me see the Ron scenes?” I want Rupert so bad. Having to wait til 2009 is going to be torture for me. And can I be a nasty down in the mouth sort here? Our very lovely Ki posted this on Leaky. I’m just transferring it over in a few parts.
Could you please describe how the Poisoning scene happened in the movie with Ron? Starting from the spiked love potioned chocolates to when he collapses from the poisoned meade.
The scene opens with Ron staring lovingly at the moon from the boys’ dormitory window (lol). Harry comes into the room and Ron tells Harry that he’s in love. Harry sits on his bed and Ron climbs on right next to him (more lol) and the dialogue follows about the same from the book if I remember correctly. Harry says, “I thought you were getting tired of her” or something and Ron gets offended, Harry gets confused, thinks they’re talking about Lavender but Ron says he’s talking about Romilda Vane and asks to be introduced. Harry asks if Ron’s eaten something, Harry sees the empty wrappers and box and puts two and two together and gets him to Slughorn’s office. Harry asks Slughorn for the antidote, Slughorn lets them in, and he concocts the potion. At one point Ron comes from behind Slughorn and hugs him and so Harry sets him down on the couch (scene is shot with Harry and Slughorn infront, couch behind). Slughorn wonders why Harry couldn’t just perform the potion himself but Harry says it’s particularly strong and Slughorn agrees. Ron is acting goofy in the back, at one point he sits on the back seating of the couch and falls off! After they get Ron right, Slughorn pulls out a flasks, pours glasses, and they toast to their health. Ron of course slurps his down before the others and he immediately collapses. He starts going a bit gray, convulsing, foaming at the mouth a bit; Harry freaks out, tells Ron to breathe, yells at Slughorn to do something, Slughorn is too stunned to move so Harry hurries through his potion supplies, pulls out a bezoar (sp?) and pops it into his mouth. I forget the transitioning but we find Harry, Slughorn, Ginny, Hermione, and Ron at the infirmary wing.

Ron is lying unconscious on a bed with Ginny to the left and Hermione to the right. Harry and Slughorn are standing at the foot of the bed and Pomfrey enters to tend to him. McGonagall, Snape, and Dumbledore enters, inquires what happened. Slughorn said it was the meade which was gift and “actually it was a gift for you.” Lavender bursts in, cries about her Won-Won, sees Hermione, is indignant and angrily wonders why she’s there. Hermione retorts back and says she should be asking the same thing. Ron begins to startle and Lavender rushes to his side, holds his hand, and exclaim that he knows it’s because she’s there. Ron begins to mumble and eventually says, “Her-Mion-Ne.” Lavender looks angry/hurt and runs out of the room and Hermione looks triumphant. Dumbledore comments something along the likes of, “Ah, the pangs of being a teenager in love.” McGonagall gives a look, I think Snape rolls his eyes, lol. They start out of the infirmary wing and Harry is the last to leave, he looks back and Hermione is holding Ron’s hand (still unconscious) and leaning over his bed. She looks up at Harry and says, “Oh, shut up.”
I forget how this went in the book, but the next day Ron has no idea how he broke up with Lavender (although he’s pleased) while she’s giving him the stink eye at breakfast across the great hall, aha.

What I also really liked about this whole screening thing was the fact that both David Heyman and David Yates were present and sitting among the audience while they watched the movie. EVERYONE who commented on Rupert’s scenes were VERY positive. I hope that left some kind of impression on the two Davids on how much people really love Ron and enjoy watching him.

The reports coming out have been super positive with our Ronpert.
Yates/Heyman all observed the crowd reactions to the movie and everyone who reported on the Ron scenes said he got really big laughs. So did LavLav. GREAT JOB JESSIE!
After the movie was done screening, the audience all filled out a survey and left comments on what they liked and didn’t like.
Ron, Draco and Jessie seemed to have gotten the best reviews from the reports coming out.
I’m just glad both Davids were there to see how people reacted to Ron’s scenes. That way they won’t dare cut them out when they edit stuff in and out. People had issues with a lot of the stuff near the end of the movie. The horcrux scenes with Slughorn’s memory wasn’t explained enough….etc.

Sounds like they’re finnally giving Rupert the screentime he deserves, and hopefully it won’t get cut off, since EVERYBODY who was there seems to think Rupert was brilliant. And they had comment cards so hepefully they’ll read them and realize Ron’s scenes were some of the audiences’ favs. The love potion/poisoning/hospital scenes sound perfect, as everything Ron centred really.I can just imagine Slughorn and Harry talking and Ron in background, sitting on the couch all lovestoned (NO ONE will pay any attention whatsoever at harry and the teacher) ahahah Jessie sounds perfect as lavender and I love the “Oh shut up” line
Some other changes I’m not so pleased about, like cutting Tonks/Lupin, Bill/Fleur, Dobby and the funeral (!)honestly, the Burrow scene sounds cool, but why put that and not the funeral???

Wel if the survey conveys positive results for Ron/Hermione/Lavendar then the chances of any of their scenes being cut are nil. It’s the other scenes that get negative results from they will either fix or cut. They said it wa about 2 1/2 hours long. They have plenty of extra footage to add or fix what they can.
It looks like Rupert is knocking this one clear out the ballpark. These people who view the test screenings are not all HP diehard fans. Some are but most are picked at random off the streets or sent emails if they belong to some possibly sci-fie or fantasy club or get emails, you know what I mean and for them to respond to Ron like did just goes to show you.

Well, I´m glad to read all this good comments about Rupert/Ron and all the others spoilers that came when I was out.
I don´t think they´ll cut any of R/Hr/Lav scenes but they will have time to fix some things like Harry/Ginny kiss and Dumbleodore funeral.
Thinking better, they won´t do this because he´ll get all the money they want even more now with everybody crazy to see the movie with all the spoilers.
I´m dying to see all Ron´s scenes and him falling from the couch as looking to the moon on the window must be hilarious!

Well not really Tao. They can film their reaction to the kiss without them having the kissers there. Perhaps, the EW journalist just knew what was suppose to happen during the scene. So, that’s why they were able to note what Harry and Hermoine was reacting to and that Hermione was blowing a gust of wind at them.
It happens all of the time. Two people can be in a scene together supposedly acting off of one another and both of them not really even be in the same room at the same time.

Back to the H/G kiss, is it the reviewers who are having a bad reaction to the H/G kiss, or the people reading the spoilers? Because it seems to me like it’s (once again) people not even bothering to see for themselves before they trash it.
To me, the H/G stuff comes off as very sweet, and I’m fine with it. And anyway, the main romance of the series has always been Ron and Hermione and I myself am not willing for them to give up any of the spotlight for H/G.

There has never been any romance between Harry and Ginny and Harry didn’t even recognize her till the last second so if the movie has all of this big Gin/Harry stuff it will piss me off. So far sounds like their chemistry wasn’t so good. I think that might be the problem with why we aren’t hearing much because nothing spectacular stood out between them. I’m still willing to give Dan a chance though because I do like him and I think he has progressed each film. I never minded one bit Dan getting attention. What I did mind was Rupert not getting attention.

I was thinking.
It seems as if Ron is not treated badly by Slughorn and doesn’t have to go through the incident with Ginny.
While, I’m kinda glad for this (except, no one mentioned him calling Ron, Rupert….) this adds to the Ron we see in the final book. Will the audience know enough about movie!Ron to ‘get’ why he’s acting the way he did in the final book?
Two things could happen… he could act like a jerk and not have a why behind it. OR, they could water it down and the intensity of the situation is diminished.

Also, if they aren’t including Dobby, and Neville has been replacing Dobby, are they going to kill him and then bring him back in the final battle? j/k, but seriously, if Dobby does come back to die, it will be like, oh, I remember you. Or another senerio, they could replace little Nigel with Dobby. It would kill two birds with one stone. Some people just hate that little boy, so this would satisfy their need to get rid of him, while killing off someone in that scene. (Although, I think I’m one of the few folks in Potter fandom who actually LIKES little Nigel. He’s all cute, and rosy, without taking away Ron’s red-headed thunder. He’s A LOT better than Seven from “Married with Children.” I couldn’t STAND him….

I’m glad that they’re letting selective people see it because then the two David’s will know what to keep and what not to keep and they so far had great reviews on Rupert’s parts which I think they will stay in on what I read and they can edit all they want to edit what’s not good I think it’s good for them to wait until next yr. because it will make the movie a lot better and I can’t wait to see Rupert 3 times next yr! AJ, that’s great! I love dark comedies. And I’m glad Rupert is doing something like that rather than some of the stuff that is out now. I think dark comedies are harder to act in because you’re not really going for laughs per se. One of my favorites is “The Trouble With Harry” from Alfred Hitchcock (which is a movie Weekend at Bernie’s is based on) and the latest being “Keeping Mum” with Maggie Smith. I’m not always a fan of straight up comedies like a lot of the movies out with Seth Rogan, where they keep doing a one time joke for laughs. I like Kevin Smith, but that’s about it. lol I like comedies that are dark and more complex.

I will go out on a limb and say it was a good career choice in that, one, there is more to the play than nakedness. It’s a very interesting, thought provolking play (although, I related to the Doctor character more.) And it really is a good role for him, regardless of the nudity. There is more to the story.
Also, he got it out of the way while he was doing HP. So fans can decide now to take him or leave him.
And, he’s on broadway, I doubt if that would have occured if he didn’t gaurentee (I can never spell this word right) tickets sales, but he’s there. It really doesn’t matter how he got there, but he’s there.
I think it was a good move.

AJ well yeah it is a good play but no matter how good it is or how well he did he won’t be taken 100% serious because when people on the outside hear about Harry Potter they won’t think, “OH yeah what a great actor.” They are going to laugh and say “Oh that’s Harry Potter naked!” It’s all I ever seem to hear from people about him, but who knows that could die out. Dan does work hard so hopefully he is taken serious. Some celebrities though just feed off of the attention and I hope Dan isn’t doing that.

some moments that i can rembr are hermione “helping out” ron at the quidditch try outs with her spells, and ron thinking he’s so cool cos he’s playing so good!!!
at the quidditch match, ron plays very well and he’s actling like “im the man” and hermione’s just smiling and shaking her head in a sort of indulgent way while clapping for him, whereas lavender was all out cheering..it was very subtle and cute!
and oh! the scene after ron’s been poisoned and lavender comes up to drool all over him at the infirmary, she and hermione fight over why the other is there….. and ron says ” hrrrrr”, “herrrraaa” and they are wondering what hes saying and then he says”herrr myyy neeee” that was brilliant!!!! v. cute!!!
the jealousy bit was a lot more toned down in the movie, unlike the book…i guess they didnt have the time to go through with all their fights! “

Holy crap, it’s like spoiler heaven up in here! Now that we’ve been spoiled with some of the Ron scenes, I want to hear about the Ron/Lavender kiss, I am dying to knowwww! I hope it’s sexy, but it’s WB, so, it might just be vaguely titallating…*sighs* But PG-13, that sounds promising!

I love Rupert’s quiff it’s really cute on him and I can’t wait to shirtless Rupert on WT that would be so hot!!! I wonder when we’re going to get a bigger picture of the CB picture from that article of them in the pool? Laura and Euge – you re right, but I guess considering the previous movies, Ron will be better portrayed and have more screentime (at least from the spoilers we read) in this one… I just hope they won’t make him look like a total jerk in DH1 (I know he was kind of a jerk sometimes but I hope Ron-hater-Kloves doesn’t exagerate that)
